Wizz Air is adding another Egyptian destination to its London Gatwick network, with a new service to Hurghada launching on the 11th January 2027.

The flight will operate once a week on Mondays, with one-way fares advertised from £91.99. Hurghada will become Wizz Air’s second Egyptian destination from Gatwick, joining its existing service to Sharm El Sheikh. Wizz Air’s Gatwick to Hurghada announcement.

A direct flight to the Red Sea for less than £100 sounds appealing, particularly during the British winter. However, the headline price represents the most basic version of the journey. Add a normal cabin bag, checked luggage, an allocated seat and transport at either end, and the final bill could look considerably different.

So, how much might the new route really cost?

Wizz Air’s £91.99 introductory price is for a one-way Basic fare.

It includes one small bag measuring no more than 40cm by 30cm by 20cm, which must fit underneath the seat in front. It does not include a conventional cabin suitcase, checked baggage or advance seat selection.

Passengers who do not pay to choose a seat will receive one automatically when checking in. This may be perfectly adequate for solo travellers, but couples and groups who want to sit together may decide that paying is the safer option.

The other important qualification is the phrase “from £91.99”. The return flight is not guaranteed to cost the same amount, while only a limited number of seats may be available at the lowest price.

For comparison purposes, the examples below assume that the £91.99 fare can be found in both directions. That produces a basic return airfare of £183.98.

Wizz Air sells checked baggage allowances of different weights, including 10kg, 20kg, 26kg and 32kg.

The airline uses dynamic pricing, so there is no single fee that applies to every Gatwick to Hurghada booking. The amount can depend on the travel date, demand, baggage weight and when the bag is added.

Published 2026 fee ranges suggest that a 20kg checked bag can cost between approximately €13 and €86.50 per flight when booked online. That is roughly £11 to £75 each way at current exchange rates. Airport prices and excess-weight charges can be substantially higher. Wizz Air explains that baggage prices vary.

Using a mid-range example of £40 per flight, taking a 20kg suitcase would add £80 to the return journey. The airfare would consequently rise from £183.98 to £263.98.

Passengers should check the total in Wizz Air’s booking process before paying. On some dates, a bundle including baggage and other benefits may cost less than adding every service separately.

These are illustrative totals based on the £91.99 fare being available in both directions. Wizz Air’s live charges could be higher or lower when the flights are booked.

The £91.99 headline fare therefore translates into an estimated £240.98 return journey for someone travelling with only a small underseat bag and accepting an automatically allocated seat.

A more typical passenger taking a cabin suitcase and selecting a standard seat could spend approximately £310.98. With a 20kg checked bag, the total could reach around £340.98.

These figures do not include food or drinks onboard, travel insurance, visas, accommodation or journeys between home and the London rail terminal.

A £91.99 direct flight from Gatwick to Hurghada is genuinely competitive for passengers who can travel on the available Monday service and pack everything into a small underseat bag.

It is not, however, a £91.99 holiday journey.

Even the most stripped-back return trip could cost around £241 once flights and basic airport transport are included. A passenger carrying a conventional suitcase and choosing a seat should budget closer to £300 to £350, with the possibility of paying more if the lowest return fare or cheaper baggage fees are unavailable.

The new route is still welcome. It gives travellers another direct option to Egypt’s Red Sea coast and could provide excellent value. The sensible approach is simply to ignore the first price displayed and compare the final checkout total, including every bag, seat and transfer needed for the trip.
